Dallas, TX

My daily diary post for today is brief since we didn’t do anything but drive.

We got a late start this morning and then drove west on I-20.  We usually stop at every rest area to stretch our legs and just relax a bit, and this day was no different.  I am dreading driving the 650 miles it takes to get across this bigass state.  The swamps of Louisiana are behind us and the wide open pastures of Texas are ahead of us.

As we were approaching Dallas it began to rain, and it was beginning rush hour traffic so we found a free parking spot for the night (why pay?).  We have driven through Dallas before and remember it as being rather unpleasant so the thought of driving it in rush hour and in the rain, or even in the dark, did not appeal to us.

Our gas expense for today was $125.  We’re seeing prices of $2.96 and $2.93 per gallon.

Sorry you have such a negative impression of Dallas. I have always said it is a better city to live in than to visit, but over the last few years it has become much more cosmopolitan with a lot more diverse activities.

Enjoy your travels and thanks for sharing.

Thanks for reading, and for your comment.

I should have added “while driving a 35-foot motor home and towing a car.” I am from small town Minnesota and have never liked driving in big cities. I can do it, but I don’t like it. Last time we drove through Dallas on I-35 during some heavy traffic. I find the spaghetti junctions and stacks intimidating with the motor home. Our trip today on I-20 went very well.
