Tucumcari, New Mexico

As we leave Albuquerque and head west on I-40 the mountains disappear and the road flattens out.

The winds started picking up so we stopped at Tucumcari for the night, only 175 miles from where we had been.

We checked our Passport America directory and found Cactus RV Park, downtown Tucumcari, on Historic Route 66.  This is a small park, only 34 RV sites, no restrooms or showers.  The sign was old and faded and the office has seen better days.  We were the only RV here when we checked in, so we were beginning to wonder if we made the right choice.  Have no fear, the people who run the place are very nice and very helpful.  The site we are in was 100% level, no correction needed; we only put our jacks down to stabilize from the wind.  The sites are all clean and wide and long and we have full hookups including cable TV and free wi-fi that works.  More rigs arrived and now it is filled nearly to capacity.  This is a great spot for an overnight stay.
