Valdez, AK

Just when I though we had seen the most beautiful scenic drives ever–it got better.  The drive from Glennallen to Valdez is even more jaw-dropping than what we had seen before. It has to be experienced, I just can’t gather all that wonderment into a few photos.  Temps ranged from 47-60 and cloudy and hazy at times.  Here are some pictures from our drive:

Valdez (pronounced val-DEEZ), is a small fishing village on Prince William Sound, population only 3,976.  The salmon are swimming up stream now and there are lots of bear around here going after them.  Hopefully we will see some bear while we are here.

Valdez is also the southern terminus of the trans-Alaska pipeline.  It’s on a dead-end road and you cannot drive up to it if you don’t work there.

Hello

Hello

We bought tickets for a 9-hour cruise tomorrow out to see some glaciers and wildlife.  Would love to see an orca.  The weather forecast is for rain, but that seems to be the way it is this whole month so we are not going to let that stop us.

  1. Pete says:

Just a note the water falls by the highway are named ‘Bridal Falls’.
